The ASTER Scene Locator project started with the idea of using an automated process, to create a coverage of all ASTER Scenes, that would enable a user to spatially search for scenes in a specific area of interest. The development of this project resulted in a process that involved many steps including: acquiring meta-data from the Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC) FTP site, manipulating and reformatting meta-data, and submitting data to a C++ program designed to create shapefiles. The results of the automated process are then displayed in ArcIMS, an interactive internet based mapping application. This mapping application allows the user to easily display multiple layers of data, and query the database for specific information. This site is still under development, please direct any comments or suggestions to Michael Ramsey. |
